'One of those very special books that makes you put everything on hold so you can get back to it' - Rachel Joyce

The tale begins with a seemingly eccentric English love story. Maurice, a cautious and awkward man, and Maralyn, a charismatic and forceful woman, create an unlikely yet profoundly effective romance. Together, they challenge their humdrum suburban life as Maralyn proposes an audacious idea: sell their house, build a boat, and leave England behind for good. Their dream is to escape the socio-economic strife plaguing their homeland and seek a new life in New Zealand.

After much toil, their dream materialises and they set sail on their handcrafted boat. However, their journey takes a dramatic turn when a whale collides with their vessel, leaving them stranded in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Adrift on a tiny raft, Maurice and Maralyn’s love faces the ultimate test. As Maurice withdraws into himself from the sheer stress and despair, it is Maralyn who must summon every ounce of her strength and willpower to keep them both alive.

Filled with moments of intense danger, unwavering spirit, and profound tenderness, Maurice and Maralyn is more than just a survival story. It delves deep into the human condition and the essence of human connection, showcasing the extraordinary lengths one can go to—both at sea and in life—to survive and thrive.
