Everyone can build an art collection—no matter the budget, space, or starting point. This is a new kind of art book for a new generation of collectors.

From Partnership Editions founder Georgia Spray, this guide reframes art collecting as something open, personal, and evolving. Centred on the idea of emergence—emerging artists, emerging collectors, and an emerging sense of self—it shows how collecting art can become a powerful form of self-expression.

Set against the backdrop of artists' studios and real homes, the book demystifies the art world and provides clear, practical guidance on discovering your taste, buying with confidence, and living with art. From navigating online platforms and galleries to framing, hanging, and building a collection over time, this is a visual and accessible handbook for the contemporary collector.

At a time when the art world is shifting—driven by digital discovery, social platforms, and direct access to artists—How to Start an Art Collection acts as your personal art advisor: approachable, informed, and inspiring.

About the Author

Georgia Spray studied History of Art at Bristol University, going on to work at leading art institutions including White Cube Gallery, Christie's and the Auction Room, a digital auction house, and for the art dealer Ivor Braka. After having received continued enquiries from peers unable to find good quality affordable art for their homes, she founded Partnership Editions in 2017, a curated platform to connect would-be collectors with emerging artists.
Georgia also works as a personal art advisor to some of the world-leading interior designers, helping them collect emerging art for their residential and commercial projects around the world.
