Hear the Art

Hear the Art is the essential poetry-as-art collection, loaded with Richard Tipping's elegant, wry and telling concrete poems made as sculpture and as picture. He is fascinated by words found within words, and articulating their iterations.
Tipping works with poetic language in visual forms and physical media ranging from animated neon, slump glass, engraved marble and screenprint to large-scale public sculptures in steel, granite and electric lights. Typographic designs move off the page, becoming independent poem objects untilβwhile living in the artworld as thingsβthey are photographed, and return to the page. This book is full of realised ideas, a rich panoply of word art demanding to be seen, heard and remembered.

About the Author
Richard Tipping's publications include poetry, photography, word art and folios of graphic prints which are held in many collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, MoMA in New York and the British Museum. Solo and group exhibitions in many cities in Australia as well as New York, London and Cologne have created a broad audience for his work. Originally an Adelaidian, after many years in Sydney and a few in Europe, he settled in Newcastle as a lecturer in media arts. Most recently he has moved to the vibrant town of Maitland and opened WordXimage studio gallery to show interruptive and explosive connections between the verbal and visual arts.
