Foundations of Urban Design
Book Hero Magic created this recommendation. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! IS THIS YOUR NEXT READ?
The book is structured into twenty-nine essays, each dedicated to a pair of urbanistic concepts.
Discussing historical and contemporary, interpretive and designerly approaches to urbanity, the notions composing the 29 pairs relate dialectically, as theses-and-antitheses. Still, we are warned, 'the presented antagonisms are not a priori in opposition, but rather complementary.'
In Foundations of Urban Design, these essays provide a nuanced understanding of urban design principles, offering insights into how historical contexts and contemporary practices merge to shape urban spaces.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
Tom Avermaete, Chair for the History and Theory of Urban Design at ETH Zurich, praises the book as "an inspiring vocabulary to describe the spatial features of the city" and "a unique dictionnaire raisonne to discuss past and future interventions in our largest man-made artefact."
