Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The sassy Phryne Fisher sets the seamy side of Sydney alight in her tenth adventure.

Death Before Wicket follows Phryne Fisher as she plans her Sydney sojourn—enjoying a few days at the Test cricket, a little sightseeing, and attending the Artist's Ball with an up-and-coming young modernist. However, these plans quickly begin to go awry when Phryne's maid discovers that her thoroughly respectable sister has abandoned her family for the murky nightlife of the Cross.

Phryne is definitely not the woman to say 'no' when two delightful young men come to her on bended knees, begging for her help to prove their friend's innocence of theft. Consequently, Phryne's plans for a simple day or two of pleasure are indefinitely postponed.

At first, it all seems simple enough as Phryne sets her investigations into motion, but when greed and fear become the motivating factors, people start to act ruthlessly. Phryne inevitably finds herself tangled in a web of blackmail, secrets, lies, and the dangerous influences of deep magic.

Death Before Wicket is described as "pure indulgence. A 1920s heroine for the 90s. A fast and elegant read." – WHO WEEKLY
