Baghdad Central, set in Baghdad, November 2003, unfolds as the US occupation is on the brink of chaos. The CPA's policy has disbanded the Iraqi army and decimated the police through de-Ba'athification. Amidst this turmoil, Inspector Khafaji, a mid-level Iraqi cop who abandoned his duties back in April, finds himself caught in a precarious situation.

Khafaji has witnessed enough of life both before and after Saddam's reign to realise that clinging to anything beyond poetry and his daughter, Mrouj, invites danger. However, he finds himself imprisoned in Abu Ghraib by the Americans. His only escape? To collaborate with the CPA in rebuilding the Iraqi Police Services. Yet, it is not until the US forces take Mrouj that Khafaji discovers a means to make his cooperation both acceptable and rewarding.

As part of his new role, Khafaji delves into the mystery of young translators vanishing while working for the US Army, setting the stage for an intricate investigation.

A 6 x 60-minute drama adaptation, also titled Baghdad Central, is slated for production in 2018 by FremantleMedia. Please stay tuned for more information.
