A Lot of Silly
A Lot of Silly by Joy Cowley is a delightful assortment of whimsical tales and nonsensical poems that promises to tickle the funny bones of children and adults alike. In this riotous collection, Cowley spins a world where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary with effortless charm and airy wit. A man casually parades his tadpoles in his hat, oblivious to the astonishment around him. A cat discovers its own mutinous voice coming from its paws, leading to unexpected mischief. The mighty roars of a tiger are comically juxtaposed with the yelp of a dentist stuck in its jaws. And the hilarity continues with ten baggy clowns as they perform their do-wacky dance, flipping and flopping in sheer goofiness.
Each tale and rhyme in A Lot of Silly is a testament to Cowley's mastery of playful satire, echoing the whimsical genius of beloved humourists like Spike Milligan, Edward Lear, and Ogden Nash. Her ability to craft vivid narratives out of the absurd invites readers into a carnival of imagination where language is joyously celebrated. This collection is not just a book; it is an invitation to explore the magic in the mundane and see the world through laughter-tinted lenses.
The illustrations by David Barrow complement Cowley’s exuberant storytelling with hilarity-infused artwork that adds another layer of enjoyment. His drawings enhance the zany charm of each story, capturing the text's playful spirit and bringing each scene to life with endless humour and warmth.
A Lot of Silly is a splendid gift for families who cherish giggles shared over silly stories and rhymes. It encourages young readers to experiment with language creatively, igniting their imaginations with each turn of the page. A perfect blend of clever wordplay and imaginative illustrations, this book is destined to become a treasured favourite in any children's library.
