Did you know that the Girl Guides worked undercover for MI5 during the First World War?
Phyllis and her younger sister, Annie, join the Guides hoping for adventure, despite their parents’ fears that the Guides are unladylike. Starting soon after the start of the First World War, the sisters are swept up in a bigger adventure than they’d bargained for when Phyllis is recruited as a messenger for MI5. Annie, meanwhile, embarks on an investigation of her own, suspecting the family who run the local haberdashery shop of being German spies. When one of the officers at M15, the stern Captain Warren, goes missing, the sisters find themselves joining forces. Could he be the real spy? And who is behind his mysterious disappearance?

About the Author
Holly Webb joined Brownies aged 7, and is still part of Girlguiding 43 years later. After being recruited by her own old Brown Owl in London, Holly is now a Brownie and Guide leader in Tilehurst, near Reading, and an Ambassador for Girlguiding South West England. Her Guides have never discovered a murder (or at least they’ve never admitted it…)
Holly started writing while she was working as an editor at a children’s publisher – her first book was written mostly sitting on the floors of trains while she was commuting into London, and it was published in 2004. She has since written over 170 books, which have been translated into more than 30 languages.
Holly lives in Reading with her husband, three children and three cats.
