Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
4661 m2 presents a remarkable transformation of the Lenzburg penitentiary's concrete walls, where renowned Swiss street artists were invited to create vibrant artworks over 4661 square metres of space. Between 2012 and 2014, this cold, austere environment was brought to life through more than 25,000 hours of creative work, using 1,400 spray cans and 200 litres of paint. The book showcases these expansive murals spanning eight courtyards, colonnades, staircases, and exterior walls, offering a rare public glimpse into a space otherwise locked away.

Beyond visual presentation, 4661 m2 delves into the artistic processes behind this unique project, featuring insights and reflections from the 16 artists involved, providing a comprehensive and candid look at this extraordinary fusion of street art and incarceration spaces.

Street Art in a Swiss Prison

Documentation of the wall design of 16 artists in new prison in Switzerland.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Surrounded by grey walls made of concrete for many years. In the Swiss town of Lenzburg, however, the situation is somewhat different: from autumn 2012 to spring 2014, well-known Swiss street artists designed 4661 square metres of wall space at the new local penitentiary. They were free to draw or spray paint anything they wanted.

In more than 25,000 hours of work, a total of 1,400 spray cans and 200 litres of paint were used to turn a barren, cold concrete bunker into a lively and unique comprehensive work of art. This impressive and tangent art across eight recreation courtyards, five colonnades, a staircase, and two oversized exterior walls remains, similar to the prisoners themselves, locked up behind the heavily guarded gates and walls.

The wall paintings and graffiti are made available to the public in this art book. In addition to a presentation of the works of art, 4661 m2 also provides an insight into the work processes while also allowing the 16 involved artists to speak about their efforts.
