Thom Pain (based on nothing) presents a monologue by Thom Pain, a deeply flawed yet recognisable man who reflects on his life with a mix of humour and regret. As he stumbles through his story, he reveals personal wounds and common human experiences with raw honesty and lyrical language. The play explores themes of loneliness, identity, and the search for meaning in an overlit, distracting world.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

From the last lonely wilderness, the last dark corner of these overlit times, in the camouflage of the common man, Thom Pain takes the stage, fumbling with his heart, squinting into the light. With terrible timing and impeccable regret, over-educated in the wrong ways, and wounded in the right ones, he appears. Teeth bared, as he picks a piece of lint off his suit.

Listen to the language writhe, as he tries to say hello. Meet Thom Pain. A man who has only had, by his own reckless reckoning, three or four things happen to him in life. A man who is, by his own admittedly uninformed admission, a man much like a man or woman like you.

Thom Pain opened at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004, with a transfer to the Soho Theatre later that year.

His other plays include Tragedy: a tragedy and The Flu Season. In 2012 Eno was a joint recipient of the PEN award for an American Playwright in Mid-Career. Praise for Will Enoโ€™s writing: โ€œMr. Enoโ€™s voice is so assuredly his own, simultaneously delicate and audacious in its measurements of poetry, philosophy and Monty Pythonesque sillinessโ€ - New York Times; โ€œHe strikes me as being the real thing, a real playwright. He takes every chance. And Will keeps the voice his own: he has an awareness of the human condition I wish more people his age had.โ€ - Edward Albee
