About the Author

Native fluent in Mandarin, Weiko is currently developing a Disney Plus Asia Pacific original series and a feature World War II biopic with Mad Chance (AMERICAN SNIPER) attached to produce. Previously, Weiko adapted New York Times best-selling memoir RIVER TOWN by MacArthur Fellow Peter Hessler for Fugitive Films and director Lu Chuan (Disney's BORN IN CHINA) and a series pilot based on a Penguin YA novel for Super Deluxe. He has written projects for The Mark Gordon Company, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Ivanhoe Pictures/SK Global, Don Mischer Productions, and Wanda Pictures. Credits as original story writer and producer include Chinese romance film 100 DAYS 真愛100天 that world premiered at Hawaii International Film Festival and was an official selection at the 23rd Golden Rooster Hundred Flowers Film Festival in Mainland China. An AMPAS Nicholl Fellowship Finalist, Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award recipient, and Austin Film Festival Playwriting Award Finalist, he earned his M.F.A. in Screenwriting and B.A. in English (Creative Writing) from UCLA. A Fulbright Senior Specialist and Sundance Collab Advisor, Weiko has taught screenwriting at Northwestern University, Emerson College, UCLA Professional Program, and Taipei National University of the Arts. Currently, he is a tenured Associate Professor of Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University.
