Get a Grip, Cooper Jones
Cooper Jones longs for the time when life was simple. When all he needed to worry about was whether to change his undies or make do. Now, suddenly, his life has become all too complicated. Cooper is plagued by thoughts of the father he has never known. Then there's Mum. She has been acting weirder than normal.
Get a Grip, Cooper Jones by Sue Whiting is a compelling story about growing up and dealing with complex emotions.
Cooper Jones longs for the days when life was simple, when his biggest worry was whether to change his undies or make do. Now, his life has become complicated. He is plagued by thoughts of the father he has never known — a man he suspects of being a cowardly loser, a man he fears he is becoming like.
To make matters worse, Cooper's mum has been acting weirder than usual, as if Cooper's growth spurt is a criminal offence. He can't help but wonder what is going on with her.
The arrival of the gorgeous Abeba in Wangaroo Bay only adds to Cooper's turmoil. He soon realises he's not alone in facing a complicated life.
Set against the backdrop of a fiery summer, Cooper discovers that when life is spinning out of control, sometimes you just need to get a grip.
