Set in 1950s rural Australia, a moving and profound examination of masculinity and the complex nature of male friendship.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

At only 11 years of age, Lew was given an apprenticeship to hard-man shearer Painter Hayes. The beginning of his new life meant one less mouth for his abandoned mother to feed, but it also meant he would never see her again. But Lew's a grown man now. And with this latest job, shearing for John Drysdale and his daughter Clara, everything will change.

In lucid, rippling prose, Stephen Daisley speaks of how things work, and why; of the profound satisfaction in hard work done with care; of love and friendship and the damage that both contain.

Coming Rain takes you on a journey of transformation, exploring the nuanced layers of human relationships and the enduring impact of the past on the present.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Coming Rain by Stephen Daisley is acclaimed for its vivid depiction of rural life, with attention to the details of farm settings and animal behaviours. Daisley is praised for his evocative prose that captures the rural zeitgeist and themes of mateship, with a writing style reminiscent of Henry Lawson. The novel's alternating perspectives, including from a dingo, add to its appeal, making it a memorable and beautifully crafted read.
