The Motherfucker with the Hat (TCG Edition)
Super-charged work from the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Between Riverside and Crazy.
"Vibrant and surprisingly serious... by far the most accomplished and affecting work from the gifted Mr. Guirgis, a prolific and erratic chronicler of marginal lives." – The New York Times
"The most expressive cursing since Shakespeare." – The Guardian
In The Motherfucker with the Hat, Jackie, a recently paroled drug dealer, attempts a fragile balance between the addictions of love, the struggle to stay clean, and revenge for the betrayals that punctuate and maybe even facilitate his recovery.
Stephen Adly Guirgis's other plays include Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train, Our Lady of 121st Street, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and The Little Flower of East Orange. His play Between Riverside and Crazy won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. He is a former co-artistic director of LABryinth Theater Company. He is a creator and writer of Netflix's The Get Down.
Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?
"Guirgis, a brilliant comedic talent... has an original and knowing take on class... The interplay of their desire and their deceit makes them one of the most beautifully drawn couples to appear on the stage in years... Guirgis knows enough about life to ask the right questions." — Hilton Als, New Yorker
"One of the best new plays to come to Broadway in ages," The Wall Street Journal describes it as "tight, smart and splendidly well-made, a tough-minded unromantically romantic comedy that keeps you laughing, then sends you home thinking."
