Scooter the bird knows how powerful words are, and he tries to use his to help others. A bossy bird named Squawk moves into the neighbor hood, and he constantly teases Scooter and his friends. But when Scooter finds himself in trouble one day, he gets help in an unexpected way. An uplifting story of friendship and learning to get along.
Heroes Don't Have to Fly (Scooter the Word Bird) tells the story of Scooter, a bird who dreams of flying around and using words to help others, just like his favourite author, Wendell. The only issue is that Scooter can't fly, so he uses a scooter instead.
Bully bird Squawk teases Scooter and the other birds, cruelly asking, "Are you even a bird?" Knowing how hurtful words can be, Scooter takes advice from Wendell's book and decides to stand up to Squawk by using positive words to help his friends.
One day, when Scooter finds himself in a dangerous situation, he is surprised when it is Squawk who offers words that help him. Recognising the power of positive words, Scooter makes a friendly offer to Squawk in hopes of encouraging him to change his bullying ways.
