Ôoku: The Inner Chambers, Vol. 1
Synopsis coming soon.......
Ôoku: The Inner Chambers, Vol. 1 by Fumi Yoshinaga presents an intriguing alternative history where the roles and dynamics of Edo-era Japan are turned on their heads.
In this Eisner-nominated work, a strange new disease referred to as the Redface Pox begins to afflict the men of Japan, dramatically reducing their numbers. Within eighty years, the male population has decreased by seventy-five percent.
As women rise to power and assume roles traditionally held by men, including that of the shogun, society adapts to this new reality. Men, now considered precious providers of life, are carefully sheltered. In this reimagined world, the most beautiful of men are selected to serve in the shogun's Inner Chamber, highlighting a fascinating reversal of gender dynamics.
