In the tranquil outskirts of Southern Sweden, estate agent, devoted Methodist, and loving wife and mother, Louise Åkerblom mysteriously disappears without a trace. There are no signs of a struggle, no apparent motive, and no witnesses. As the days stretch into weeks, Inspector Kurt Wallander and his dedicated team are drawn into an enigmatic case that will challenge their detective skills and stretch their resolve to its limits.

Inspector Wallander, renowned for his keen instinct and methodical approach, senses from the outset that Louise may never be found alive. His investigation reveals ties to a much broader conspiracy that stretches far beyond the bucolic Swedish countryside. In South Africa, in a time of profound political upheaval and transformation, Nelson Mandela has embarked on his journey from prisoner to president, leading the fight to dismantle the shackles of apartheid.

As Wallander delves deeper, he discovers an alarming connection between Louise's disappearance and an intricate web woven by rogue agents of South Africa's secret service and a former KGB operative. These antagonists, driven by a desperate desire to halt the march of progress, plan a heinous crime that could have repercussions reaching to the highest echelons of power and across international borders.

Unravelling this malicious plot requires Wallander to extend his reach beyond Sweden, into a global arena where the stakes are as high as the tension. He must navigate a landscape of political intrigue and international terrorism, where loyalties are murky and safety is never guaranteed. The fate of many rests on his ability to stop a plan that threatens not only Louise's life but the course of history itself.

The White Lioness is a masterful blend of suspense, political intrigue, and profound character study, showcasing Henning Mankell's storytelling prowess. The novel won the prestigious CWA Gold Dagger Award for Sidetracked and continues to captivate readers with its blend of thrilling plot and poignant social commentary.

Join Inspector Kurt Wallander as he races against time to uncover the truth in a world where shadows conceal the darkest ambitions, and the quest for justice takes on a journey that spans continents and ideologies.
