Craig S. Keener provides the International Critical Commentary on chapter 5-9 of the Gospel of Mark
Mark 5-9 is the second volume of Professor Craig S. Keener's four-volume work on the text of Mark's Gospel. In this instalment, Keener provides an in-depth critical and exegetical commentary on chapters 5 through 9.
As expected from an ICC volume, Keener brings together all relevant aids to exegesis, such as linguistic, textual, archaeological, historical, literary, and theological insights. This compilation provides a complete overview and understanding of these chapters. Keener offers a close reading of the text and incorporates a wealth of secondary scholarship, offering readers a highly comprehensive commentary with new insights into the meaning and development of the text.
The text covered focuses largely on the healings of Jesus, including the raising of Jairus' daughter, the Canaanite woman's daughter, the deaf mute, and the man born blind. Also featured are the feeding of the 5000, Peter's confession of faith, and Jesus' predictions of his death. This part of the Gospel concludes with the Transfiguration.
