Maigret and the Man on the Bench
Originally published in French as Maigret et l'homme du banc by Presses de la Citâe 1953.
Maigret is drawn into the sorry tale of a man unable to escape from the dullness of daily life.
Maigret and the Man on the Bench draws Inspector Maigret into the poignant story of a man trapped in the monotony of everyday life.
Were these yellow shoes part of the reason Maigret was so interested in this man? He would never admit it, but for years he too had longed to wear olive-green shoes. They were fashionable at the time, along with those very short beige raincoats.
