Maigret and the Saturday Caller
First published in French as Maigret et le client du samedi by Presses de la Citâe 1962.
Maigret has a visitor who admits his intentions to commit murder but when he goes missing Maigret worries that he himself has become the victim.
Maigret and the Saturday Caller introduces us to a tense encounter where Inspector Maigret finds himself face-to-face with a visitor who openly admits his intentions to commit murder. However, when this visitor goes missing, Maigret is left to worry that he himself may have become the victim.
The story unfolds one evening when Maigret is followed home by a man who confides his intention to kill his wife and her lover. Maigret, concerned and taking the confession seriously, decides to intervene. He makes it a point to speak to the man daily, attempting to dissuade him from his course of action. Yet, the situation takes a troubling turn when the calls abruptly stop, leaving Maigret to grapple with the chilling prospect that a murder may have already taken place.
