High school student's heroic act turns into epic human vs. monster sword fight!

Buso Renkin is the story of teenager Kazuki Muto, who dies trying to save a girl from an eerie monster attack. The next morning, Kazuki wonders whether it was all a dream. However, he discovers that the girl, the monster, and his death are all real! The girl, Tokiko Tsumura, was in fact attempting to slay a homunculus—a beast that can assume human forms and primarily feeds on people. When Kazuki intervenes, she revives him by replacing his heart with a "kakugane," an alchemic device that grants him the ability to summon a lance for fighting the monsters.

It is revealed that Tokiko is a member of the Alchemist Warriors, an organization dedicated to protecting the world from these diabolical creatures. Soon, Kazuki joins Tokiko in her mission to eliminate the sinister being that creates and controls the homunculi.
