In the rush of modern life, it is all too easy to lose touch with the peace that is available to us in each passing moment. In Peace Is Every Step, Zen master, peace activist, and celebrated author Thich Nhat Hanh shares timeless wisdom on how to discover tranquillity within ourselves amidst the chaos of daily life. Through this profound work, Thich Nhat Hanh guides readers on a journey to mindfulness, an art of keeping our consciousness alive to our present experience and reality.

Thich Nhat Hanh teaches that various moments typically considered mundane or even stressful—such as a ringing telephone, dirty dishes, red lights, and traffic jams—can serve as reminders to return to our true selves. These situations become opportunities to practise mindfulness and deepen our connection to the present moment. For Hanh, the simplicity of breathing mindfully or offering a sincere smile can forge profound satisfaction and a deep sense of joy and completeness.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a teacher and spiritual leader, Thich Nhat Hanh enriches the book with commentaries and meditations that are accessible and applicable to everyday life. He shares personal anecdotes and stories to illustrate how living with a meditative presence can transform even the most routine tasks into moments of insight and peace.

The book includes practical exercises designed to raise awareness of one’s body and mind through conscious breathing practices. These exercises help readers cultivate mindfulness not only within themselves but also in their interactions with others and their perception of the world around them. Thich Nhat Hanh also addresses broader concerns, such as the beauty of the world and its accompanying problems, including pollution and injustices, urging readers to foster a balanced and compassionate perspective.

Peace Is Every Step is not merely a guide to mindfulness but a call to rediscover the richness of life and the inner peace that resides in each breath. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or new to the concept of mindfulness, this insightful and eloquent work offers valuable tools for transforming your life, one mindful step at a time.
