Iro offers the first comprehensive survey of Japanese design through the lens of Japan's traditional colour spectrum, known as iro. Tracing the use of these colours since the 7th century, initially signifying rank and status, the book explores their broader application over time across a diverse range of objects. Featuring 200 curated traditional shades, each illustrated with examples from historic kimonos to modern furniture and everyday utensils, it provides a unique insight into Japanese aesthetics and design heritage. Expertly bound in a traditional Japanese style, Iro is both a visual feast and a design object in itself.
