Watership Down
Watership Down by Richard Adams is a magnificent tale that traces the journey of a group of brave rabbits seeking a safe haven. The story begins with Fiver, a small rabbit blessed (or cursed) with the gift of prophecy, foreseeing a terrible catastrophe that will befall their warren. While most of the rabbits are unwilling to heed his ominous warnings, his steadfast brother Hazel trusts him implicitly.
As their home faces imminent danger, Hazel and Fiver courageously lead a band of rabbits through the English countryside in search of a new and safer place to call home. Their expedition is fraught with peril, not only from the natural world but also from humans and other animals. Each step they take introduces thrilling challenges and unlikely allies, highlighting the intricacies of trust, leadership, and survival.
The journey directs them to the idyllic Watership Down, a location where they hope to establish a new warren. However, reaching this promised land is only the beginning. Together, they must confront predators, confrontations with other creatures, and internal strife to secure their future and protect their community. The rabbits' tale is one of perseverance, friendship, and bravery.
This collectable Puffin Clothbound Classic edition of Watership Down is a must-have for book lovers and collectors alike. About the Author
Richard Adams grew up in Berkshire, the son of a country doctor. After an education at Oxford, he spent six years in the army and then went into the Civil Service. He originally began telling the story of Watership Down to his two daughters and they insisted he publish it as a book. It quickly became a huge success with both children and adults, and won the Guardian Children's Fiction Award and the Carnegie Medal in 1972. Richard Adams wrote many novels and short stories, including Shardik and The Plague Dogs. He died in 2016, aged 96.
