Book Hero thinking about your next read

A humorous and heartwarming middle-grade graphic memoir about fitting in, facing bullies and finding the right pair of glasses

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Sixth grade isn't as great as Rex thought it would be. He's the only kid who hasn't had a growth spurt, and the bullies won't let him forget it. His closest friend is unreliable, at best. And there's a cute girl in his class who may or may not like him back.

With so much going on, everything is a blur—including Rex's vision! When he discovers that he needs glasses and his family can only afford the ugliest pair in the store, any hope Rex had of fitting in goes completely out of focus.

In this true coming-of-age story, Four Eyes, Rex has his sights set on surviving sixth grade. However, now he's got to find a way to do it with glasses, no friends, and a family that just doesn't get it!

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Four Eyes by Rex Ogle is widely praised for its engaging depiction of middle-school challenges, including bullying and fitting in while dealing with familial pressures. Critics highlight the expressive artwork by Valeza and Szymanik, commending its ability to capture emotional nuances, and compare its style to beloved graphic novelists like Raina Telgemeier. This thoughtfully rendered narrative, set in the 1990s, is recommended as an excellent addition to middle school libraries and a relatable read about loneliness and change.
