On what seems like a perfect beach day, several disparate groups including a family, a young couple, tourists, and a refugee converge at a remote, picturesque cove surrounded by lush cliffs. However, this idyllic setting harbours a dark secret. A woman's body is discovered floating in the clear water, and alarmingly, all the children begin to age rapidly. As time accelerates for everyone by half an hour at a stretch, escape from the cove becomes impossible. Pierre LΓ©vy's gripping narrative paired with FrΓ©dΓ©rik Peeters's eerie illustrations crafts a haunting and fantastical mystery.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

It's a perfect beach day, or so thought the family, young couple, a few tourists, and a refugee who all end up in the same secluded, idyllic cove filled with rock pools and sandy shore, encircled by green, densely vegetated cliffs. But this utopia hides a dark secret.

First, there is the dead body of a woman found floating in the crystal-clear water. Then there is the odd fact that all the children are aging rapidly. Soon everybody is growing older every half hour, and there doesn't seem to be any way out of the cove. LΓ©vy's dramatic storytelling works seamlessly with Peeters's sinister art to create a profoundly disturbing and fantastical mystery.

Sandcastle has received high praise:

Begins like a murder mystery, continues like an episode of The Twilight Zone, and finishes with a kind of existentialism that wouldn't be out of place in a Von Trier film. - Publishers Weekly, starred review

Sandcastle is a fast 112-page read you won't be able to put down. - Cleveland.com

Peeters and LΓ©vy convey some profound, if profoundly unsubtle, truths about the human condition. Weighty stuff, expertly told. - The Comics Bulletin

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

New York Times praised Sandcastle as a "stark existentialist parable" from the French graphic novel tradition. Acclaimed filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan described it as a "profound mystery" and "sci-fi graphic novel" that inspired his film Old, highlighting its moving exploration of ageing and the human experience.
