Lord of Scoundrels

Genuinely, I’m pretty tough to wrangle a 5 🌟 out of but I think this book deserves it. I literally read it until 6am (started it at 2am so that’s mostly my fault).

Dain is grumpy, and cruel, and in complete denial about his feelings for most of the book. But he’s funny, even when he’s not trying to be, and he loves a woman who is just the best. Completely eccentric in the best way, and when she challenges him, he eventually sees that she’s probably been right all along.

Jess, my beloved. She’s funny and smart and warm. She doesn’t take any shit and she takes the time to understand people. She is also brutally honest with people whether they want to hear it or not (see, breakdown of cosmic proportions, see shooting a man because he asked to be shot). But you also chose to look after a child in need over a man’s feelings. And you half beat a different man to death. And you got yourself a damn good lawyer. Just about every decision she ever made had me going YES JESS!

Plus since she’s a “spinster” we don’t even have a matter of weird age gaps to deal with. Lovely writing, lush world, fun characters.
