A semi-famous artist, frustrated with the monotonies of everyday life, decides to embark on a spontaneous journey. Announcing her plan to drive cross-country from Los Angeles to New York, she leaves behind her husband and child, eager for a fresh perspective. Yet, just thirty minutes after she starts her adventure, she impulsively exits the freeway, choosing to bed down in a nondescript motel. This seemingly trivial decision marks the beginning of an unexpected journey of self-discovery and reinvention that will redefine her understanding of freedom.

Miranda July's second novel, All Fours, is a masterclass in storytelling that confirms her unique brilliance in the world of fiction. With her distinctive voice, perfect comic timing, and an unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, July pushes boundaries and invites readers to question their own assumptions about life and identity.

This novel is as much an absurd entertainment as it is a tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a 45-year-old female artist. As the protagonist explores her sense of self and seeks a new kind of freedom, she navigates a series of poignant and often humorous encounters that challenge her beliefs and desires. July's palpable delight in flipping the conventional on its head shines through on every page.

All Fours transcends expectations, offering readers a fresh look at the concept of reinvention and the complexities of living as a woman in modern society. Miranda July once again hijacks the familiar, turning it into something thrillingly and profoundly alive. This narrative is a must-read for those who appreciate a daring exploration of the intricate tapestry of human experience.
