A courageous way forward for the world’s most intractable conflict

Israel on the Brink argues that Israel can’t continue on its current path.

The events of 7 October and Israel’s subsequent invasion of Gaza revealed significant flaws in its foundations. It was exposed as a nation unable to protect its citizens, torn between messianic theocrats and selective liberals. Additionally, it is resented by its neighbours and losing support from Jews worldwide. While its leaders justify bombing campaigns surpassing the worst atrocities of World War II and initiating manmade famine in the Gaza Strip, Israel risks becoming a pariah state. Its most formidable enemy is not Hamas, but itself.

Ilan Pappe outlines a way forward from the Jewish state, centred around restorative justice and decolonisation. This vision includes the release of all Palestinian prisoners, cessation of illegal settlements, and building bridges with the Arab world. The future envisioned is one of peace, not perpetual conflict.
