Israel on the Brink explores the precarious state of Israel following the events of 7 October and its subsequent invasion of Gaza. These incidents have exposed the deep-seated issues within the nation, revealing it as a country struggling to safeguard its citizens. It is starkly divided between messianic theocrats and selective liberals, resented by its neighbours, and gradually losing the support of Jews worldwide.
As its leaders attempt to justify bombing campaigns that exceed the worst atrocities of World War II and impose a man-made famine in the Gaza Strip, Israel risks becoming a pariah state. The book argues that Israel's greatest adversary is not Hamas but itself.
Authored by Ilan Pappe, Israel on the Brink proposes a path away from the current predicament through restorative justice and decolonisation. The book calls for the release of all Palestinian prisoners, the cessation of illegal settlements, and the forging of connections with the Arab world. Pappe envisions a future that favours peace over perpetual conflict.

About the Author
Ilan Pappe is Professor of History at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies and Director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at the University of Exeter. He is the author of over a dozen books, including the bestselling The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine and Lobbying for Zionism on Both Sides of the Atlantic. In 2017, he received the Middle East Monitor’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the Palestine Book Awards.
