Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

A New History of Italian Renaissance Art, authored by Stephen J. Campbell and Michael W. Cole, brings a fresh perspective to the study of Italian Renaissance art. As respected teachers and active researchers, Campbell and Cole draw on both traditional and current scholarship to present complex interpretations in this engaging account.

The book's unique decade-by-decade structure is both easy to follow and allows for a comprehensive storytelling of art beyond the great centres of Rome, Florence, and Venice. This structure includes exploration of other cities and sites throughout Italy, such as Naples, Padua, and Palermo, featured more prominently in this edition.

This approach allows the artworks to take centre-stage, differing from competitors' books which are typically organised by location or artist. Enhancements in this edition include an expanded first chapter on the Trecento, and a new 'Techniques and Materials' appendix, explaining and illustrating the major art-making processes of the period.

Richly illustrated with high-quality reproductions and new photography of recent restorations, the book presents the classic canon of Renaissance painting and sculpture in full. It also broadens the scope of conventional surveys by offering thorough coverage of architecture, decorative and domestic arts, and print media.

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

Acclaimed for its clarity and depth: The Art Newspaper praises it as 'splendid' and valuable for both novices and experts. The Irish Times calls it 'informed, enlightened and useful.' David Ekserdjian of Leicester University describes it as 'dazzlingly ambitious and formidably intelligent,' destined to become the definitive survey. Minerva hails it as 'elegant and comprehensive... magnificent.'
