A stunning reproduction of a unique album of Helmut Newton’s iconic photographs including many previously unseen images

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description
German-Australian photographer Helmut Newton is one of the world s most renowed and recognisable fashion photographers. Inspired by Expressionist cinema, film noir, and surrealism, Newton s radical images continue to fascinate viewers today. In 1999, along with collaborator Gert Elfering, Newton compiled a one off photographic album comprising eight unique Polaroids, 16 chromogenic prints, and 79 gelatin silver prints, each mounted on board and accompanied by Newton s own pencil annotation.

This album is unique and One-off reproduces it in full, faithful to the album s original size, as a facsimile. The book allows readers to experience this remarkable object in its entirety and to marvel at Newton s artistic process and ingenuity. Paired with a new foreword by Philippe Garner and an insightful interview between Matthias Harder and Gert Elfering, the book is published as a bilingual German-English edition.

Matthias Harder is Senior Curator and Director of the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin since 2004. Before that he worked for several years as guest curator at Fotomuseum Munich and as director of Kunstverein Gluckstadt. • Helmut Newton. Polaroids
Polaroids occupy a special place in the hearts of many photo enthusiasts who remember a time when "instant photography" meant one-of-a-kind prints that developed within minutes of clicking the shutter. What was once a crucial tool for photographers to test their shots before shooting on film has now become obsolete in the face of digital photography. Luckily for us, legendary...

  • Helmut Newton
Helmut Newton (1920-2004) always showed a healthy disdain for the easy or predictable, so it's no surprise that the SUMO was an irresistible project. The idea of a book the size of a private exhibition, with spectacular images reproduced to state-of-the-art origination and printing standards, emerged from an open, experimental dialogue between photographer and publisher. With the SUMO weighing in-boxed...
