The Other Side of Mrs Wood is a captivating tale set in the vibrant world of Victorian high society. Mrs Wood is London's most celebrated medium, a woman who has survived decades in the competitive field of contacting the Other Side. She avoids the pitfalls that expose others as frauds and continues to host filled-to-capacity séances for the city’s elite.

Despite her success, Mrs Wood faces challenges as some patrons begin cancelling their appointments. The allure of American mediums who can almost materialise full spirits is threatening her traditional methods of table tapping and candle theatrics. Her worries intensify when, during one of her gatherings, she hears something alarming—a yawn.

To rejuvenate her act, Mrs Wood decides to take on a young protégé, Emmie, to liven up her show. However, she soon questions whether Emmie Finch is the naïve ingenue she appears to be.
