Meet lovable Mila Rose and follow along as she takes her grandmas on a fun romp travelling by streetcar through the City of New Orleans, the "Big Easy." As they ride down the streetcar line, they meet interesting people and enjoy many stops (and mishaps) along the way.

They encounter a zookeeper, a pastry chef, and the hot dog man. They visit the zoo, the aquarium, and the St. Louis Cathedral. They listen to jazz music, dance, and see a musical boat on the river. These grandmas, called Queenie and Nana, make messes, get hungry, walk slowly, and need naps, but they are very happy!

As they all sit together at the last stop, CafΓ© du Monde, they celebrate their day with coffee and donuts (beignets). Mila then realises that keeping up with two grandmas was fun, but really isn't so EASY after all!

This role reversal book is told through the eyes of a young girl as she tries to manage her grandmas and their mishaps. While the story takes place in New Orleans, it is a delight for children, parents, and grandparents everywhere. The nostalgic stops will be loved by anyone who has lived, visited, or wants to learn more about the culture of New Orleans.

It can be read in its entirety by the older reader or you can choose to read a few of the titled adventures each day. There is a word bank for your child to learn sight words and participate in reading the story.

The illustrations are beautiful, and there are colour pages in the back for your little artist to enjoy colouring on their own. There is also a picture of Mila for you to cut out, then take on your own adventure and upload the image online, if you'd like to share.

Mila's BIG EASY Day is a fun, loving story to be enjoyed by children of all ages, anywhere.

About the Author

Jean Rousseau Lawrence was born in New Orleans and raised in a nearby suburb where she and her family enjoyed the culture and many activities of New Orleans. Her love for riding streetcars began after she attended a birthday party on a decorated streetcar that rode up and down famed St. Charles Ave.

She is a wife, mother, and grandmother who believes her biggest treasure is her family and any time spent with family and friends. After retiring from a career as a registered nurse, Jean spends her time enjoying hobbies that include photography, gardening, music, cooking, watercolor art, pottery and now writing. She currently has plans for 3 additional books that will feature Inventive Isaac, Adorable Anna, and a Mardi Gras Parade, in honor of her mother's love for parades.
