Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

The Phantom of the Open is soon to be a major film starring Mark Rylance.

This hilarious, heartwarming and - unbelievably - true story chronicles the life of Maurice Flitcroft, the World’s Worst Golfer.

'The story of its greatest anti-hero is just what the game needs' - Spectator

When 46-year-old crane driver Maurice Flitcroft chanced his way into the Open—never having played a round of golf in his life—he scored a record-worst of 121. As a result, the sport’s ruling classes banned him for life.

Maurice, however, wasn't one to give up. In a series of hilarious cat-and-mouse games with the authorities, he entered tournaments repeatedly using increasingly ludicrous pseudonyms such as Gene Pacecki, Arnold Palmtree, and Count Manfred von Hoffmanstel, often disguised by a fake moustache.

Through these antics, Maurice not only drove the authorities into fits of anger but also captured the hearts of fans from Muirfield to Michigan, becoming perhaps the most beloved—and bravest—sporting underdog the world has ever known.

'Hilarious' - Esquire

Book Hero Magic summarised reviews for this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! HOW HAS THIS BEEN REVIEWED?

The Phantom of the Open has been praised for its humour, particularly noted by Esquire, while Spectator highlights its appeal in showcasing the fascinating tale of sports' most unconventional anti-hero. The book provides an uplifting and entertaining narrative that offers insight into the world of golf's eccentric characters.
