There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm is one of the more distinctive pieces of science fiction in the traditionally published space, having emerged from the collaborative internet horror universe of the SCP Foundation. Because of this origin, much of the story unfolds through a series of interconnected vignettes. At first, these pieces feel loosely connected, but they gradually assemble into a larger narrative that builds toward a suitably epic finale with all the requisite foreshadowing.

The novel opens with an exceptionally strong first chapter that functions almost like a microcosm of the entire book. It clearly introduces the core idea of antimemes: concepts that actively erase or consume information about themselves, and immediately demonstrates the unsettling possibilities of a world where knowledge itself is unreliable. This lets the book play in interesting ways with information and perspective. Constantly losing and rediscovering memories, the characters end up trying to piece together what’s happening along with the reader.

Overall, There Is No Antimemetics Division is mysterious, scary, and thought-provoking. A story about memory, information, and the terrifying possibility that the most dangerous things in the universe might be the ones we literally cannot remember.

This is not my usual read - it’s confusing and freaky and large sections are redacted. We are learning about anti memes but as we learn about them their stories are cut short along with the human’s investigating them. I’ll be honest - I’m not sure I’m smart enough to understand everything in the ending but this was a unique read and one I’ll recommend to anyone who loves a speculative horror/sci fi that will bend the brain and boggle the mind.
