As Greil Marcus reconstructs the drama, The Manchurian Candidate is a movie in which the director and actors, including Laurence Harvey, Frank Sinatra, and Angela Lansbury in an Academy Award-nominated performance, were suddenly capable of anything, beyond any expectations.
