For the first time ever, discover the story behind the Stebbing recording legacy. From pioneering violins and 78 records, to the singers, songwriters, engineers, and producers who have graced Stebbing's famous three recording studios.

Come inside the mid-1960s Galaxie nightclub, the evolution of the Zodiac record label, and the Stebbing family's fearless response to industry politics, changing technologies, and financial risk. This is the untold Stebbing story of resilience, enterprise, and an ancestral restless spirit that has underpinned the Stebbing family's generational legacy, from the pioneering days of recording in New Zealand to the digital age.

Against a backdrop of New Zealand's vibrant social history, this 75-year-long story is about the bands, the artists, the singers, the songwriters, the engineers, and the technical know-how that is uniquely Stebbings. Richly told and lavishly illustrated, this warts-and-all nostalgic read is conveyed through the artists, the musicians, the bands, the songwriters, the engineers, and the wider Stebbing family itself.

Wired for Sound captures not just a story of music and its makers but encapsulates a rich historical context that is sure to fascinate both music aficionados and history enthusiasts alike.

About the Author

Grant Gillanders Frenzy record label owner and music historian Grant Gillanders has had music in his blood since his grandfather's gift of a portable record player for his fifth birthday in 1959. In 1990 Grant worked as the producer/cameraman for the first series of the TV3 music show Frenzy. He later began compiling CDs for local artists for EMI and this led to similar projects for other record labels including SONY, Universal, Ode and Rajon. In 2012 Grant formed his CD re-issue label, Frenzy. Two years later, his company joined forces with the British re-issue label RPM. In addition, Grant became a foundation writer for the Audioculture website in 2013. Robyn Welsh Robyn's career in journalism has included provincial and metropolitan newspapers in New Zealand and magazines both here and overseas. As a freelance writer for the past 30 years, Robyn's broad professional interest has encompassed writing, sub-editing and research. She was a co-researcher for Dave Cull's 1999 book The Great New Zealand Kitchen, editor/writer for The Yellow Guide to Retirement Living and contributing writer for Barbican Publishing's real estate series Where to Live in Auckland. This is her first book.
