Maigret and the Reluctant Witnesses
Maigret and the Reluctant Witnesses follows Maigret as he struggles to break through a victim's uncooperative family to uncover the truth behind a murder in book fifty-three of the series.
Maigret is called to the home of the Lachaume family, where the eldest brother has been found shot dead. Upon his arrival, the family close ranks and claim to have heard nothing at the time of the murder. Maigret must navigate through the family's web of lies, secrets and deceit, all while handling Angelot, a troublesome new breed of magistrate who has inserted himself into the case.
The family's black sheep, Veronique, finally gives Maigret the breakthrough he needs when she reveals the family's financial troubles and the depths to which they have sunk to salvage their reputation.
