Most robot books focus on the details of building a robot from scratch, which includes a lot of drilling, soldering, etc., things that are really beyond most beginners and tend to frustrate them. In contrast, Robot Building For Dummies seeks to help readers achieve success quickly.
In the 1970s, people used to build computers from scratch, but those days are over because now computers are easier to buy than build. The same is true with robots due to the abundance of kits on the market. Now the robot enthusiast can concentrate on making robots perform useful, real-world tasks. That's what this book is about.
It lightly touches on the basics, teaching the reader fundamental concepts without being boring, then moves on to selecting a robot kit, building it, expanding it with new sensors and features, and then making the robot perform meaningful tasks.
