Good reading

Got for granddaughter who loves books she will love it

I am a Dr Seuss first timer so …

As a Dr Seuss first time reader I cannot understand why this is not 5 stars on Good Reads! I bought this for the 3 1/2 year old grandson and we read the first of the five stories in it last night. What a hoot. The fabulous repetitions had him saying words before I got them out. To me this signalled his attentiveness to the story and not just the illustrations - because the illustrations are great. The rhymes are wonderful and the stories seem to always turn out well. Unlike me, you will probably be familiar with the stories in this treasury. For me, its success lies in the fact that we have now read 3/5 stories in less than 24 hours. He is a demanding wee man. The large book format makes this great as a “read to” text as he can see both words and illustrations easily. We are looking forward to Fox in Socks tonight. My only gripe with this treasury is the quality of the paper. For a children’s book which is going to be much loved, I fear the paper thickness might make it less robust than we would like. The dust jacket is a bonus.

About the Author

Theodor Seuss Geisel -- better known to millions of his fans as Dr. Seuss -- was born the son of a park superintendent in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1904. After studying at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, and later at Oxford University in England, he became a magazine humorist and cartoonist, and an advertising man. He soon turned his many talents to writing children's books, and his first book -- And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street -- was published in 1937. His greatest claim to fame was the one and only 'The Cat in the Hat', published in 1957, the first of a hugely successful range of early learning books known as Beginner Books.
