Foolosophy? Think Again, Sophie

Ten Reasons for Not Taking Philosophy Too Seriously
Book Hero Magic crafted this summary to help describe this book. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Summary
Foolosophy? Think Again, Sophie by Colin Swatridge explores the nature of philosophising, questioning the value and special status traditionally granted to Philosophy as an academic discipline. The book argues that despite millennia of debate, professional philosophers have not reached any more useful or certain answers about reality, knowledge, or ethics than ordinary thinkers. It challenges the pretensions of Philosophy and suggests that much of it remains entangled in outdated theological ideas, positioning it as a lost cause.

We all philosophize at times. In so doing, we do not call ourselves Philosophers.

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

We all philosophize at times. What do we do when we philosophize? We think in a rather concentrated, deep sort of way. In so doing, we do not call ourselves philosophers; it would be rather pretentious of us if we did. Philosophers are those—generally in university departments of philosophy—who think, and ask questions, about what reality is made of, what we know, and how we should behave.

Philosophers are not fools; but after two and a half thousand years, they have not come up with agreed answers to their questions that are any more useful, or certain, than thinkers who do not call themselves philosophers. Many of those who do are still caught up in the thought-forms of theology; all are in pursuit of a lost cause except those who write what might be written by thinkers in other domains. Is it not time to admit that there is nothing very special about philosophy?

Foolosophy? Think Again, Sophie by Colin Swatridge challenges the traditional view of philosophers and philosophy, proposing a fresh perspective on the nature of philosophical thought.
