In the winter of 1954, in a construction camp in the remote Tasmanian highlands, three-year-old Sonja Buloh experienced the loss of her mother, who walked into a blizzard never to return, against the backdrop of a father who drank excessively.
Some thirty-five years later, Sonja returns to Tasmania to visit her inebriated father. The shadows of the past begin to intrude ever more forcefully into the present, changing forever both his living death and her ordered life.
