Little Amish Lizzie

Bestselling Amish novelist Linda Byler’s first book in the Buggy Spoke series for young readers

Book Hero Magic formatted this description to make it easier to read. While it's new and still learning, it may not be perfect - your feedback is welcome! Description

Little Amish Lizzie follows the life of Lizzie, a spirited five-year-old Amish girl living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lizzie is spunky, sensitive, and often contrasts with her more pious older sister, Emma. She sometimes finds herself daydreaming instead of praying, though she trusts that God knows she's grateful for the delicious meals her Mam prepares. Her wild spirit frequently lands her in trouble, leaving her to ponder why she can't be as sweet and kind as her sister. Will she always be at odds with her fiery nature?

Although Lizzie loves adventure, her world changes when her father's business begins to struggle, and the family plans to move to a new house in a different town. All Lizzie wants is to stay at the cherished home she knows—with its little picket fence, bubbling creek, and favourite climbing trees. Through Linda Byler's vivid descriptions of Amish life, you can walk in Lizzie's shoes as she adjusts to a new school, experiences the terror of an awful buggy accident, laughs at her misadventures, and struggles with her identity within her close-knit Amish community.

This is the first book in the Buggy Spoke series, chronicling Lizzie's tumultuous teenage years where she reconciles her hot temper and willful ways with her Amish faith. These books serve as prequels to Linda Byler's bestselling Lizzie Searches for Love Trilogy and are intended for a younger audience, ages 8-10. Reminiscent of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series, these stories provide delightful insights into a different way of life. Packed with vivid descriptions of Amish food, farms, and traditions, the series explores themes like respecting parents, dealing with sibling rivalry, recognising personal shortcomings and gifts, and harmonising a strong personality with a deep-seated faith.
