'Will strike a chord with anyone who feels that their public life is at odds with how they really feel inside.' Red

Baek Sehee, a successful young social media director at a publishing house, is grappling with her inner turmoil. Despite her exterior composedness, she deals with persistent feelings of low self-worth, anxiety, and self-doubt, coupled with harsh judgement of others. To the outside world, she maintains the calm and ease required by her lifestyle, but this façade is physically and mentally draining. Yearning for deeper connections, she decides to seek professional help.

In her journey towards understanding herself better, Baek begins visiting a psychiatrist. During these sessions, spanning over 12 weeks, she candidly expresses her struggles with depression and explores whether her fondness for her favourite street food, the hot and spicy rice cake known as tteokbokki, holds a deeper meaning. Could this seemingly simple craving be a metaphor for her life's complexities?

In I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki, Baek documents her insightful and often vulnerable conversations with her psychiatrist. Through these dialogues, she starts to untangle the web of negative thought patterns, automatic reactions, and harmful habits that have trapped her in a perpetual cycle of self-abuse. This narrative is a touching blend of memoir and self-help, designed to be a comforting companion for anyone facing their own moments of darkness.

I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki is a unique book that combines raw personal reflection with therapeutic insights, offering readers both solace and practical advice. Its candid portrayal of mental health struggles and the journey towards self-acceptance renders it a must-read for anyone seeking understanding and empathy.

Please note: I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki is available in three different cover colours, which will be selected randomly upon purchase.
