Need-to-gnome:
- Discover all the materials and notions you need, as well as all the necessary know-how, including how to block, stuff and assemble your gnomes to create their distinct personalities.
- Each gnome has their own distinguishing features: choose from hats with earflaps, cablework, tassels or whimsical curled tips; knit outfits with colourwork details, stripes or cabling; create majestic beards with corkscrew curls or delicate loops, or even add some beard pockets!

“Once upon a time, there was a knitter who loved gnomes. She was always cold and couldn’t understand why she was knitting and knitting (and knitting) gnomes rather than cardigans. All she knew was that as she stitched on the beard and the gnome popped into itself, complete with a personality and a life history, she would instantly wonder about doing it again.”
Sarah Schira is a knitting designer who loves gnomes. A lot.
Her gnome patterns routinely hit the top of Ravelry’s ‘Hot Right Now’ list, and she has an adoring gnome-loving following across multiple platforms. To her delight, thousands of knitters around the world have been #NeverNotGnoming with her.
When Sarah’s not knitting gnomes, she’s working on knitting accessories for everyday adventures, filming tutorials for her YouTube channel, and recording a podcast with her sister Katie which covers their favourite patterns, tea, knitting events and – you guessed it – gnomes.
