Arthur M. Ecksteinβs Rome Enters the Greek East is praised for its integration of international relations theory with detailed historical analysis, highlighting the transition from Hellenistic multipolar anarchy to Roman dominance. The book effectively places political theory within the context of mid-Republic and Hellenistic interstate relations, emphasising that fear, threat, force, and violence were fundamental aspects of interstate discourse. Additionally, Eckstein argues that all polities were active participants in international affairs, regardless of their power dynamics.
