Night and Dana
"When special-effects obsessives Dana and Lily begin work on an eco-horror movie, they realize they've been growing apart. But as everything starts going up in flames, Dana begins to forge her voice as a climate activist"--
A creative coming-of-age story for the climate-change generation
Night and Dana follows Dana Drucker, who battles boredom in her Florida beach town by crafting special-effects makeup—the more gruesome, the better. However, after a messy prank with her best friend Lily draws the wrong kind of attention, the two girls face a dilemma: find a new creative outlet or risk leaving high school without graduating.
To salvage their educational future, Dana and Lily enrol in a community college film class. This opportunity allows Dana to continue honing her monster makeup skills as they work on a horror film inspired by local ocean warming. During their search for filming locations, Dana encounters Daphne Ocean, an activist and self-proclaimed water witch, who becomes an inspiring outsider to Dana. Despite this new inspiration, as filming progresses, Dana finds herself drifting away from Lily, who seems increasingly independent.
Soon, tensions rise, pushing Dana to alienate both old friends and her newfound mentor. Amidst the chaos, as everything around her feels like it's going up in flames, Dana begins to discover and solidify her own voice.
Night and Dana is a creative coming-of-age narrative set in the climate-change era, offering readers a graphic novel experience about art, personal growth, and navigating one's path when it seems like the world is burning.
