Founded by Franco Maria Ricci (FMR) in Italy in 1982, FMR is the ultimate art magazine, an art insider's treasure trove, and a touchstone in the formation of personal taste for the past half century. This superbly produced book, featuring some 300 images as well as concise chapter intros and acute captions illuminating the entire history of the sumptuous black-background magazine, is itself a true collector's item.
Ricci traversed the boundaries of art, architecture, and design, and his unprecedented magazine became an unequivocal success. Its British, French, Spanish, and Italian editions combined to make it the world's largest art magazine of its heyday. FMR is cherished by curators and gallerists around the world for its presentation of daringly bold world art of every description and contributions from some of the world's greatest writers.
Paused in 2009, the quarterly publication was revived in 2021 and today continues to be read internationally by discerning readers and art lovers, leading the growing return to luxury printed publications.

About the Author
Antony Shugaar is a writer, translator, and the English -language editor of FMR magazine. He has translated novels, screenplays, and journalism for major trade publishers including: The Washington Post, The New York Times, Sunday Times, The Paris Review, The Village Voice, and both Advertising Age and Adweek. He has translated books by Primo Levi as well as television series and films by Paolo Sorrentino, Luca Guadagnino, and Peppe Fiore. His translation of Gianni Rodari's Telephone Tales received the American Library Association's Batchelder Award. He lives in Washington, D.C.
Laura Casalis is the wife of the late Franco Maria Ricci. She now leads FMR, the prestigious art magazine founded by Ricci, which she relaunched in 2021. Casalis also oversees the Labirinto della Masone, the world's largest bamboo labyrinth, ensuring Ricci's cultural legacy lives on. She lives in Fontanellato, Italy.
