Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano is a luminous, life-affirming tale that captures the heart and mind in equal measure. This New York Times bestseller tells the riveting story of twelve-year-old Edward Adler, the sole survivor of a tragic plane crash that claims the lives of 191 others, including his family.

One summer morning, a flight bound for Los Angeles takes off from New York with 192 people aboard, ranging from business travellers and tourists to homemakers and children. In an unexpected turn of events, the plane suddenly crashes, leaving Edward as the only surviving passenger.

In the wake of this devastating accident, Edward must navigate the tumultuous waters of grief and loss, struggling to find meaning in a world that has been irreversibly altered. As he moves in with his aunt and uncle, Edward is thrust into sudden, unwanted fame, and he must learn to cope with the complexities of his new life.

Just as Edward begins to grapple with his pain, he and his neighbour, Shay, stumble upon a startling discovery in his uncle's garage: letters from the relatives of the other passengers, all addressed to him. These letters propel Edward on a transformative journey, forcing him to confront the lives of those who were lost and understand the impact their absence has left behind.

By interweaving the harrowing experiences of the passengers' final moments with Edward's emotional and psychological growth, Dear Edward poses one of life's most profound questions: What does it mean not just to survive, but to truly live?

This heart-wrenching yet uplifting novel captures the resilience of the human spirit, the importance of community and connection, and the extraordinary ways in which we find hope and healing after unimaginable loss. Ann Napolitano's evocative storytelling will leave you reflecting on what it means to live fully and cherish every moment.
